The students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Yupia in Arunachal Pradesh have resumed their sit-in-protest on Thursday against the NIT authority in demand of a permanent campus

The students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Yupia in Arunachal Pradesh have resumed their sit-in-protest on Thursday against the NIT authority in demand of a permanent campus at its scheduled location in Jote.

The students shall be continuing with their protests, unless their demands are addressed by the institute’s Director, Professor Pinakeswar Mahanta, informed a student over phone.

The students held their first protest on Tuesday, but could not continue on Wednesday, as the students showed their solidarity towards the shutdown of universities in the Northeastern region over the Supreme Court hearing on the Citizenship Amendment Act.

During their first day of the protest on Tuesday, the Director was not present in the campus as he was on leave. The Director is reportedly back in the campus and the students are hoping to meet him and put forth their demands.

Ever since the establishment of the NIT in Arunachal Pradesh in 2010, the institution is being functional in a temporary campus.

The other demands of the students are that both the institution’s Director and the faculties should also be shifted in the permanent campus.

It is being reported that the construction work at the permanent campus site is being stopped after the Ministry of Human Resource and Development stopped their funding.
