Bihu stage shows and cultural programs have now been brought under the ambit of the GST Act.
Singers and musicians will henceforth have to receive payments from Bihu committees and cultural show organizers in cheques and will have to pay 18% per cent of all payments as GST to the Government as per agreements entered into with the organizers.
Directives in this regard have been issued to Bihu committees and cultural show organizers to comply with the fresh regulations.
Incidentally, although a decision to bring cultural shows, including stage Bihu shows, under the ambit of the GST Act was taken way back in 2017, it was not implemented in Assam.
