All eyes are set on a series of crucial meetings on Friday between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Ministers of all the Northeast states to deliberate on the introduction of Citizenship Amendment Bill.
The meeting assumes significance since the entire region is apprehensive over the Centre’s move to introduce and pass a revised version of the Bill in the ongoing Winter session of the Parliament.
In a bid to reach out to all the stakeholders to allay fears, the Home Minister will also hold talks with representatives of civil society organisations, and members of the state Congress units of the respective states.
The Congress, however, has decided to boycott the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah for discussions on CAB.
Meanwhile, civil society groups from Tripura, led by royal scion Pradyot Debbarma will also meet union home minister Amit Shah to discuss the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
The Union home minister has invited Debbarma and civil societies of the state to discuss CAB and seek their views on the bill before re-tabling it in the Parliament.
