Imar Basar, one of the oldest Goan Burah and social worker in Arunachal Pradesh, passed away on Tuesday in his native village Padi, after a prolonged illness. He was over 113 years old.

As per reports, Basar was born in the year 1905-1906, the centenarian was appointed as Goan Bura in 1947 making him the longest serving Goan Burah of the state.

Basar was known for his contribution towards social work and his pivotal role in abolishing the slavery system in the state.

He was also actively used by local administration under the British Raj in collection and deposition of revenue.

Basar is now survived by his wife and six children along with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
