The Dimasa Women’s Society during a demonstration staged on Tuesday warned of a naked protest, if the Assam government goes ahead with its proposal to set up an NRC detention

The Dimasa Women’s Society during a demonstration staged on Tuesday warned of a naked protest, if the Assam government goes ahead with its proposal to set up an NRC detention camp and implement Panchayati raj in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

President of the Dimasa Women’s Society Ringmili Hojai addressing the media on Tuesday that the people of the district were afraid that if the illegal migrants detained in the camp get citizenship later, they would settle in the district, changing its demography and posing a threat to the indigenous population.

On the proposed implementation of gram Panchayat plan under the Panchayati raj system, Hojai said that implementation of Panchayati raj system in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts will dilute the provisions of the sixth schedule in the tribal areas and reduce the power of District Autonomous councils.

She said, if both these proposals are not taken back, the Dimasa Women’s society will stage a naked protest. Meanwhile, The All Dimasa Students Union later also joined the demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
