Assam pugilist Jamuna Boro gave a flying start to India’s campaign in the World Women’s Boxing Championships 2019 in Russia by advancing to the pre-quarterfinals with an effortless win on Friday.

Boro, a debutant at the event, defeated Mongolia’s Michidmaa Erdenedalai 5-0 in the Women’s 54 kg Bantam weight category.

The upcoming pugilist has recently been bringing Gold for the region in various boxing competitions. The ongoing edition of the World Championship features 224 boxers from 57 countries.

Boro recently bagged gold at the 2nd India Open Boxing Tournament in Guwahati by defeating Manipuri boxer Y Sandhyarani, Boro also won gold at the 23rd President’s Cup in Indonesia after she defeated Italian boxer Giulia Lamagna, both in the 54 kg category.

Other Indian boxers participating in the Women’s World Boxing Championships 2019 include, 6 time world champion Mary Kom, Manju Rani, Neeraj, Sarita Devi, Manju Bamboriya, Lovlina Borgohain, Nandini, Kavita Chahal and Sweety Boora.
