Metbah Lyngdoh elected as Meghalaya Assembly Speaker

UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh was today elected as the speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

He won by 19 votes against Congress candidate Winnerson Sangma. Lyngdoh, the recently elected president of UDP secured 39 votes.


The post fell vacant following the demise of former Speaker Donkupar Roy on July 28.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma congratulated Metbah and said that it it is a befitting tribute to Dr Donkupar Roy that Metbah would now be occupying the chair of the speaker in the house, once occupied by Late Dr Roy.
