In a major boost to the BJP in Meghalaya, 4 United Democratic Party Members of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) including the Chairman joined the party on Saturday.
The four joined the BJP at the party office in Shillong in the presence of BJP state leaders and party National Spokesperson and in charge Nalin Kohli.
The Four UDP MDCs include Lakhon Biam, the chairman of JHADC, Dawan Lyngdoh, Krison Langstang and Treilang Suchiang.
Talking to media persons, Kohli said that joining of these four MDCs will enable the BJP to reach out to the grassroots in Jaintia Hills and fulfil the agenda of Sab Ka saat and Sab Ka Vikas. He retaliated that the doors of the BJP are open to those who want to join the party.
On being asked about others joining the BJP, Kohli said those leaders have not been in touch with him directly. He added said that every party is entitled to function in its own way.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the JHADC, Lakhon Biam said that he joined the BJP as he was impressed by its political development and since he was associated with the party earlier he felt it fit to get back to it.
In the 30-member JHADC, the executive committee is led by NPP and UDP and now with this joining the BJP has gone from zero to four in the Council.
