The NRC authorities and the Assam Police have issued a joint statement urging the people to be careful and not fall prey to any rumours.

The statement reiterated Centre’s recent statement that non-inclusion of a person in the final NRC would not amount to a person being declared a foreigner and that there is scope of appealing to Foreigners’ Tribunals within 120 days.

The notice released two toll-free numbers for NRC related queries. The numbers are:

15107 (For Assam)
1800-3453-762 (Outside Assam)

The notice also said that the government would provide all legal aid to the needy people excluded from the final NRC, through District Legal service authorities.
