Professor Pratap Jyoti Handique has been appointed the new Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University.
Governor Jagdish Mukhi appointed Handique as the new VC of the Gauhati University on Monday with immediate effect. Handique is a professor of the Biotechnology department at the university.
Handique, a Biotechnologist of repute, was awarded a PhD from Gauhati University in 1992. He did his post-doctoral research on molecular biotechnology at Leicester University in the UK during 2005-2006 in the laboratory of professor JS Heslop-Horrison.
Handique is one of the pioneers who worked for the development of Biotechnology in Assam and the Northeast.
