Manipur: UKLF leader shot dead in Moreh

Situation is tense in the border town of Moreh in Manipur, following the killing of the town commander of insurgent group United Kuki Liberation Front, Lalthang John Gangte.

Unidentified miscreant rained at least 8 bullets on the UKLF leader, while he was on a two-wheeler. Soon after the incident, a shutdown was called in Moreh till 6 pm on Sunday by the Hill Tribal Council and various civil society organisations.

The UKLF is one of the Kuki Armed underground groups which has signed a tripartite suspension of operation agreement with the Centre and the Manipur Government.

Moreh police recovered empty cases of bullets and one 9mm pistol from the incident spot. The miscreant, meanwhile, is still at large.
