Incidents of severe landslides and floods have come to light from several places across the region this monsoon, another such incident has been reported from Sikkim.

Incessant rainfall triggered landslides on Thursday blocking highways in West Bengal’s Darjeeling and Sikkim, cutting off the northeastern state’s capital Gangtok from Siliguri.

A massive landslide has hit the state following torrential rains disrupting commute along National Highway 10. It is one of the most important highways that connects West Bengal to Sikkim.

The disruption has come as a severe obstacle to vehicles plying on the highway. Meanwhile, road clearance operation by the district administration is underway.
