The Assam government has announced a slew of immediate measures including free ICU care in government hospitals and transportation cost for all those affected by Japanese Encephalitis in the state.

The state government is in touch with the Centre and has stepped up its drive against the deadly disease after 49 deaths were reported.
Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that leaves for all doctors, nurses, paramedical staff from medical college hospital to sub health centre will be kept on hold till September 30 and unauthorized absence from the place of posting even after duty hours will be treated seriously.
Sarma also announced that financial assistance will be provided to those who are deprived of treatment. The state government will provide Rs 1 lakh to each Japanese Encephalitis patient, whose treatment is going in the nursing home ICU’s, the Health Minister said.

1094 villages across Assam are in the grip of the mosquito-borne disease and the Assam Health minister and steps like fogging and blood sample collection is being given top priority in each villages.
The situation is under close watch and all preventive measures are being taken to curb the outbreak.
