In a notification issued by the ECI, the party has fulfilled the eligibility condition for being recognized as National Party as laid down in Para 6B (iii) of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968 – Symbol Order.
NPP national general secretary Thomas Sangma was elated over the development and said that the party is growing strength by strength and will emerge as a key political force in the days to come under the dynamic leadership of NPP president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma.
It was informed that one of the criteria to be declared as a national party is to be at least recognized as a state party in four states, and NPP is recognized as a state party in Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
The NPP was founded by late PA Sangma in 2013, and has become the eighth National Party in the country.
