India defeated South Africa by six wickets in their first match of the ongoing World Cup in England.

Star Indian opener Rohit Sharma batted with responsibility and crafted his 23rd one-day International century to help India hand South Africa their third straight defeat of the tournament.

Earlier, overhead conditions helped Jasprit Bhumrah and Bhubaneswar Kumar ample movement, before spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav came into attack and started to ask questions and eventually restrict the Pro-tea-us to 227 in stipulated 50 overs.

Rohit Sharma played a magnificent innings with able support from KL Rahul and MS Dhoni in the middle overs to ensure India take home full points.

While pacer Jasprit Bumrah gave India the early breakthrough inflicting a double blow on the Proteas, Y Chahal took four wickets in the middle overs to ensure South Africa are restricted to a modest 227.

Billions of fans with bated breath witnessed Team India face South Africa in their first match in Cricket’s biggest spectacle, the Cricket World Cup 2019.
