Grenade blast in Guwahati, 10 injured; ULFA(I) claims responsibility

At least 10 persons have been injured in a suspected grenade blast that rocked Guwahati on Wednesday evening.

The blast took place at the busy Zoo road outside the Guwahati Central shopping mall, where the blast left a crater on the road near the shopping mall.

Earlier, reports claimed that two persons could have died in the explosion, however there is no official word on any fatalities.

The injured including a minor and 2 SSB personnels have been rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Rebel group ULFA(I) has claimed responsibility for the blast stating that their main target was security personnel’s who were deployed for frisking of vehicles.

As per reports, bike borne assailants hurled the grenade in the crowded area in front of the shopping mall in RG Baruah road.

Senior police officials have reached the blast site and forensic experts are carrying out investigation.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal condemned the attack and have directed authorities to rush to the spot and take stock of the situation.
