On the 6th day, the remaining bodies of the three people who drowned in the Eco Park Lake of Ramrei village at Manipur on Sunday, April 28 has been retrieved on Friday by the rescue team.
While the girl Rani’s body was found on Friday morning, the third body of S Romen was also retrieved by the rescue team later in the day. Earlier on Thursday, the first body of one of the three victims identified as Nagakpam Rajiv was retrieved from the lake.
The rescue operations went on for 6 days with the Indian Navy significantly joining in on Day 4 i.e Wednesday and within two days of the Navy getting into action, all the three bodies have been found with the rescuers having faced multiple challenges starting from the high depth of the lake to variable depths at different locations to high speed undercurrents which have been a major deterrent as reported by the joint rescue team
The three people had gone missing after the boat they were sailing in capsized in the lake following a fierce cyclonic storm that hit Manipur on Sunday. Sound navigation in the form of SONAR was used as the primary equipment to locate the bodies from under water.
With weather playing hide and seek at a regular basis, it had been raining consistently in the village throughout the conduct of the rescue efforts. The involvement of the 12 member Navy team has yielded in quick results bringing a conclusion to the overall rescue operation.
