A sizeable turnout was witnessed in the 4th phase even as violence marred elections in West Bengal which despite the incidents registered a turnout of 76 percent. Polling was held in 72 Lok Sabha seats across 9 states today. 40 out of the 72 seats that went to polls were in the Hindi heartland.
Over 12 crore voters exercised their franchise to decide the fate of 963 candidates in this phase.
By 5 pm while the eight constituencies in West Bengal had registered a voters turnout of 76.47 percent, the polling percentage was 66 in Madhya Pradesh, 64 in Odisha, 63 in Rajasthan, 63 in Jharkhand and 53 in Uttar Pradesh.
