Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by his mother and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi during the filing of nomination.

It may be mentioned that the Congress Chief along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Robert Vadra and a sea of Congress supporters held a 3-km-long road show from Munshiganj-Darpipur to Gauriganj before filing the nomination.

The Congress leader will face Union minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani in the rural constituency, who lost to Gandhi in 2014.

Apart from Amethi, the Congress president will also contest from the second Lok Sabha seat in Kerala’s Wayanad. Gandhi had filed his papers to run for Parliament from Wayanad on April 4.
