Former Nagaland Chief Minister KL Chishi has been served a notice for Model Code of Conduct violation.

Commissioner and Returning Officer Nagaland, M Patton has issued a show cause notice to Congress candidate for the lone Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency KL Chishi for violating the Model Code of Conduct under provisions relating to ‘Corrupt Practices’ and ‘Electoral Offences’ in the Representation of the People Act 1951 and the offences relating to elections.

The notice was issued as Chishi used a letterhead of former CM of Nagaland embossed with the National emblem which was widely circulated on social media. The use of official emblem of India is in contravention to Rule 10 (1) of State Emblem of India (Regulation of Use) Rules 2007.

The show cause notice also stated that the candidate Chishi went against the model code of conduct by using the name of a religion.

The show cause notice said -“No party or candidate shall include any activity which may aggravate existing differences or create mutual hatred or cause tension between different castes and communities religious or linguistic.”

The returning officer issued two notices to Chishi, One on March 19 and another on March 28 informing him of the provisions relating to corrupt and electoral offences.
