The BJP has suffered a big setback in Mizoram with as many as 17 leaders quitting the party just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Among those who quit the party is former state president of the BJP, K Lalrinmawia. The BJP leaders are apparently upset with the party’s stand on the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

According to Lalrinmawia, party members are also unhappy over nomination of Nirupam Chakma as the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from the state.

The election to the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram will be held simultaneously with the bye-election to Aizawl West-I seat on April 11.
