The NPP is keeping the BJP on the tenterhooks on the Citizenship Bill issue. The party is all set to hold a crucial meet to decide on its future course of action following the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
On speaking to Northeast Live NPP National President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the NPP-led MDA government has been opposing the bill all along and its passage despite the massive opposition is unfortunate.
Sangma said that NPP will hold a meeting with all party leaders to decide on its next step in the wake of the passage of the bill in the Lok Sabha.

It may be mentioned here that Meghalaya is the only state which has passed a resolution in the cabinet against the bill.
Significantly, even before the bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, Sangma had said that the NPP may have to rethink its alliance with the NDA if the contentious bill is passed.
The NPP will now hold a meeting with party leaders from across region especially those from Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh apart from Meghalaya to decide on whether to continue or not its ties with the NDA.
