Experts from a Pune-based company, which had sent its team to Thailand earlier this year to help in rescue of 13 people from a cave, are at the tragedy hit coal mine site in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills.

The firm’s expertise in dewatering was sought by the Indian Embassy in Thailand to aid the operation conducted inside a cave earlier this year.

The experts have offered their technical know-how and advice on dewatering to the rescue teams at spot.

Meanwhile, a Kirloskar Brothers Limited team is also on its way to Meghalaya to assess the requirements following a request from Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

A team of Meghalaya Congress legislators will also be reaching the incident spot to take stock of situation.

It may be mentioned here that there has been no breakthrough in the rescue operations in the tragedy-hit coal mine at Lumthari village where as many as 15 miners are trapped since December 13.

Lack of availability of high capacity pumps to drain out the excess water jeopardised the entire operations which seemed rather directionless since day one.
