In a big breakthrough into the assault on social activists Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague Amita Sangma, one of the prime accused in the case Nidamon Chullet surrendered before East Jaintia Hills police.

Chullet who has been absconding since the brutal attack on Agnes Kharshiing is a prominent NPP leader from East Jaintia Hills district. He was on the run for over a month now with repeated raids by police failing to trace him.

Chullet’s alleged involvement in the assault case had also come as an embarrassment of sorts for the ruling NPP especially after one of the victims Amita Sangma submitted a photo of him posing with Meghalaya Chief minister Conrad Sangma along with an affidavit in the High Court of Meghalaya.

Nidamon Chullet’s alleged involvement in the case has in fact been one of the prime reasons for the victims to demand a CBI probe into the assault case.

The assault case came to limelight after the recent coal mine tragedy in East Jaintia Hills.
