Congress emerged as single largest party with 114 seats while the BJP finished with 109 seats in the final tally for Assembly election results in Madhya Pradesh.

It was a big setback for the BJP which had ruled the state for 15 long years. While Congress has finally made a comeback in the state, it could not cross the halfway mark of 115.

After a forgetful performance in Chhattisgarh, Telangana & Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh provided some respite for the BJP, the only state today where the party managed to get to three figures.

Congress meanwhile sought appointment late last night with the Governor to stake their claims to form the government in Madhya Pradesh.

Right after declaration of result, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan announced his resignation.

Shivraj Singh Chahuan addressed the media before leaving for governor’s residence, where he informed about his resignation. He said his party did not get enough numbers and will not talk to any other party for post poll alliance.

Madhya Pradesh Congress Chief Ministerial candidate Kamal Nath addressed media last night and confirmed the development.

Meanwhile, BSP chief Mayawati has announced that they will go for post poll alliance with Congress in MP.

Congress currently has 114 seats and BSP has 2. After the alliance, number would go up the halfway mark of 115 paving way for congress to form government in the state after 15 years.
