A professor of the North Eastern Hill University was arrested by sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation on charges of demanding illegal gratification.

The accused, Associate professor Dr. Dinesh Bhatia, is serving as the head of the Department of Bio Medical Engineering.

Bhatia was arrested on charges of a written complaint filed by one of his students who is pursuing Ph.D under him.

It may be mentioned that the illegal gratification amounting to Rs 40,000 is the proceeds of fake bills sanctioned by the accused professor which were transferred to the bank account of the complainant.

As instructed by professor Bhatia, the complainant had withdrawn the cash to hand it over to him.

However, the CBI caught the accused professor red handed. The accused professor was produced before the district and sessions judge court on Saturday.

Searches were conducted at the accused professor’s office and residential premises in the NEHU campus.
