A man from Manipur was apprehended today in New Delhi for allegedly threatening Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and involving in ‘anti-national’ activities.

The accused has been identified as Ali Ahmed also known as Babuji of 32 years old, a resident of Lalpani, Khairabad of Cachar, Assam.

He was arrested for issuing death threat to Chief Minister N Biren Singh earlier on October 5 2018 through a recorded video where he mentioned about Md Farooque who died in a mob lynching incident for allegedly stealing a scooter at Tharoijam village on 13 September 2018.

Police confirmed that Babuji was not found at his Cachar residence when search operation launched and tracked down at Tamil Nadu where he was working at an iron industry.

Police arrested him from Bathalapalli, Hosur Krishnagiri on 30th October and brought back to Imphal airport on 1st November.

He was produced before the chief judicial magistrate Imphal west and remanded to police custody till Nov 14.

Police also said that two people involved in the circulating the video were sent to judicial custody.
