The world’s tallest statue of Chenrezig Singkham Riwo Potala standing tall at 135-feet was inaugurated today by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling at Pelling.
Chenrezig Singkham, is one of the most important deities among three deities of Buddhism.
The project that started in 2009, was sanctified by the Dalai Lama in March earlier this year.
It was funded and constructed under the supervision of the Department of Culture and the Department of Buildings and Housing of the state.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling also laid down the foundation stone for ropeway from Sanga Choeling monastery to Pelling, which is being constructed by the State Tourism Department.
