Imphal west police in a follow up action after the Nagamapal blast on October 20 arrested 5 persons including the president of a civil society organisation namely National Identity Protection Committee or the NIPCO.

The 42-year-old President, O Premjit, along with his wife Pinky were arrested from their residence at Nambol, 25 km away from Imphal under Bishnupur district.

The other two persons, who were picked up by police have been identified as Sana of Nongren and Sahabuddin of Phoubakchao.

It may be mentioned that the CCTV footage led to the major breakthrough into the case.

Imphal west SP Jogeshchandra, while addressing mediapersons today confirmed that the October 20 blast was carried out under the command of proscribed United National Liberation Front Major Umakanta.

Manipur police further raided the NIPCO office. It has been also learned that three 9 mm pistols and 17 live ammunition have also been recovered by police during the operation besides seizing of 1 computer set, many incriminating documents, CDs and some mini cassettes.
