Assam remembers the victims of the Oct 30 serial blasts, it’s been 10 years since the horrific blast rocked the state of Assam.

Around hundred people had died and over 500 were injured in the serial blasts that ripped apart state capital Guwahati besides Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta Road.

Altogether nine bombs had exploded simultaneously in the state on the day– three in Kokrajhar, one in Bongaigaon and two at Barpeta Road.

The explosions in Guwahati ripped through Pan Bazar, Fancy Bazar and Ganeshguri, which were crowded with shoppers and office goers.

Three blasts occurred in Kokrajhar, with another possible grenade explosion, one in Bongaigaon and two in Barpeta Road.

The bomb at Ganeshguri was planted in a car and took place about 100 meters from former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi’s official residence, whose government was in power in Assam when the blasts took place.

Tributes were paid to the blast victims at the CJM Court with the lawyers’ fraternity paying their homage to their colleagues and friends who lost their lives in the explosions.

Family members and kin of the blast victims expressed their anger over promises that were made by the past Congress government but were never kept.

Meanwhile, Assam Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya also condemned the incident.
