It was a dream start to the 5-match series against West Indies for team India at the Barshapara stadium in Guwahati on Sunday evening.
Top-order batsmen Rohit Sharma and captain Virat Kohli notched up brilliant centuries as India chased down a mammoth 333-run target with eight wickets to spare.
India chased down the formidable total with close to 8 overs spare that is in 42.1 overs to be precise.
In the chase, India lost Shikhar Dhawan early. However, from there on, Rohit, who stayed unbeaten on 152 and Kohli, who scored 140, forged a 246-run second-wicket stand to put India in cruise control.
Kohli’s 107-ball innings was laced with 21 boundaries and two hits over the fence while Rohit smashed 15 fours and eight sixes in his unbeaten 117-ball knock.
For the Windies, Devendra Bishoo and debutant Oshane Thomas scalped a wicket each.
Earlier, Shimron Hetmyer and Kieran Powell played brilliant individual knocks as the Windies posted a mammoth 322 for eight.
But in the end it was India who had the last laugh with the packed Barshapara stadium enjoying every moment of the game to the fullest.
