The congress in Mizoram has suffered another major blow before the crucial elections with a sitting party MLA Dr. Buddha Dhan Chakma declining to contest his Tuichawng seat on a Congress ticket.

Dr. Chakma has written to Congress president and Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla informing him of his decision not to contest his seat as a congress candidate.

Dr. Chakma has been an important member of the minority Chakma community and has been a minister of state in the Lal Thanhawla cabinet.

Earlier state Home minister Lalzirliana and state Health minister Lalrinliana Sailo had resigned the Congress party giving a big blow to the ruling party in the state.

Setting a stage for the opposition party Mizo National Front in the state ahead of the crucial elections, both the ministers joined the MNF on September 5.

Meanwhile, speculations are rife that Buddha Dhan Chakma is likely to join an opposition party in the near future.
