Manipur University Vice Chancellor in-charge Professor Yugindro Singh has tendered an unconditional apology to Governor Najma Heptullah on “incorrect and inappropriate statements” made in relation to the Governor.

The Vice Chancellor also assured of submitting a separate report to the Governor’s office on the status of Manipur University.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary to the Manipur Governor, Professor Yugindro Singh claimed that he was under severe mental stress after visiting the campus on September 20 and in the midst of this stress, he met the Governor on September 21.

The Vice Chancellor in-charge stated that he misunderstood the questions posed by the Governor during that meet under the circumstances.

Professor Yugindro also stated in the letter that he had written a letter to the President of India, the Prime Minister, the Union Home Ministry and the Union HRD Ministry to withdraw certain words and sentences in the letter on his conversation with the Governor dated October 3.

Professor Yugindro has courted controversy recently when he had issued a letter that the Governor and the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh were contributing to the chaos within the university campus.

He even alleged that Heptullah questioned his taking over as the Vice Chancellor and had expressed her support to the agitators.

In a recent letter, the Governor addressing the Vice Chancellor stated that Yugindro Singh’s statements may amount to defamation as well as the non-observance of protocol and propreity as the Governor is the constitutional head of the state. His referring to the university community as ‘terrorists’ was also objected to.
