Teachers of the Manipur university have gone on a mass casual leave on Wednesday in protest against the delay in unconditional release of the students and teachers who were arrested during the September 20 midnight crackdown in the varsity by armed commandos of the Manipur police.
The students of the varsity have also extended their support to the mass casual leave with a total shutdown.
Earlier, the MUTA after its general body meeting also served an ultimatum to the concerned authorities to release the arrested teachers and students on or before October 11 failing which it will take a serious course of action.
The MUTA also resolved not to extend any cooperation to current Vice Chancellor in-charge Prof Yugindro Singh. The teachers’ body also slammed Prof Yugindro for labelling the university community as terrorists.
