Mizoram’s 15 year old weightlifter makes India proud as he clinches country’s first ever Gold medal at the Youth Olympics in men’s 62 kg weightlifting.
It is India’s first-ever gold medal at the Youth Olympics. India had already eclipsed its best-ever tally at a Youth Olympic Games on Day 2 of the extravaganza and by the end of it, had further return to rejoice.
Having won three silver medals, India won their first gold medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina with Jeremy Lalrinnunga lifting 150 kg on his last attempt for a combined 274 kg.
Jeremy is 15 yrs old and hails from the state of Mizoram. He has been training with the Army Sports Institute for the last two years and making his name known in the youth competitions with some very fine results in national and international events.
Most recently, he won silver medals in the World youth championship in Penang in 2016 and Bangkok in 2017.
He also won medals in Asian youth and junior championships, and Commonwealth youth and junior championships before arriving in Argentina for the Youth Olympic Games.
