Bru refugees residing in Tripura have ascertained that they will not return to Mizoram until their demands are met.

This comes at a time when centre has decided to not provide any further financial assistance to them.

Northeast Live caught up with the refugees living in Ashapara and Nishing para villages in Tripura.

Significantly, 11 families were sent back to Mizoram 4 days ago. However, refugees residing in Tripura have expressed their demand for a model Village in Mizoram.

Earlier, Bru families came to Tripura from Mizoram’s Mamit district almost 21 years ago and since then they have been living in different camp locations in Tripura’s Kanchanpur subdivision area.

There have been several meetings between centre, state government of both states and Bru representatives since then.

The last one was held in Delhi on July 3rd this year after which it was decided that the refuges would be relocated at Mizoram by September 30th and centre would stop financial assistance October 1 onwards.
