Only a day after a massive road blockade in Silchar demanding revival of the Cachar Paper Mill by agitating employees, the issue today led to heated arguments between ruling and opposition legislators in the assembly.
The commotion began when Congress legislator Kamlakhya Dey reacted sternly to Minister of Industries Chandra Mohan Patowary’s remark which in turn prompted ruling party MLA Ashok Singhal to intervene.
On the other hand, BJP MLA Padma Hazarika blamed the Congress for the abysmal condition of the Cachar Paper Mill which has been shut since October 2015.
Deputy Speaker Kripanath Malla was presiding over the session when the ruckus took place.
Meanwhile, ruling BJP MLA Atul Bora expressed dissatisfaction over the state government’s move to host the Advantage Assam.
The BJP MLA said that the government instead of hosting the event by spending crores should have used it for reviving the ailing industrial sector of the state.
Replying to this, Industries Minister Chandramohan Patowary said that the government is addressing the issue seriously.
