Tension prevailed among the locals of Singtam town with river Teesta in spate in the wake of heavy rains.

An alert was issued in the East Sikkim town because of the heavy overflow of water in the river. Police instructed locals to keep away from the river and stay indoors.

The locals of Adarsh Gaon were in a state of panic as the water level reached its highest ever last night.

Meanwhile, residents of Singtam town are demanding for a protection wall for safety. According to latest reports the water levels have started to recede.
