NIT Sikkim students call off 35-day long strike demanding for a permanent campus

Students of National Institute of Technology, Sikkim called off the over 35-day-long strike at Rabongla campus on Monday after a written assurance from State HRD additional chief secretary G.P. Upadhyaya to make immediate solutions to the impasse.

The students who had been on a protest demanding a permanent campus and adequate facilities at the NIT campus in Rabongla, since July 25 had intensified their protest with an indefinite hunger strike.

Upadhyaya met the protesting students and assured to make immediate arrangement for the permanent campus. He also appealed to the students to call off their strike and resume classes from Monday.

Meanwhile, regular classes and academic activities had been suspended at the NIT Sikkim since July 25 after around 800 students of the institute intensified their agitation demanding a permanent campus and adequate facilities.
