Family of five still missing 48 hours after car falls into Dikhow river; Navy to carry out search ops tomorrow

Even after 48 hours of the ill-fated car with family of 5 drowning in the Dikhow River, all the rescue efforts being carried out so far by the NDRF, SDRF, Special army divers, fishermen and cooperating locals have not been enough as the car still remains untraced, drowned in the waters of river Dikhow.

The search operations has been aborted for the day today and diving team of the Indian Navy will carry out the search operation along with the NDRF, SDRF and the Army’s special divers’ team early tomorrow morning.

The naval diving team has been airlifted from the Eastern Naval Command Headquarters in Visakhapatnam. The navy divers’ team is carrying along with them two inflatable Gemini boats and also a side scan sonar for locating the vehicle.

The naval diving team has reached Assam to conduct search operations in the Dikhow River for the family of 5 after Assam Chief Secretary Alok Kumar dispatched an SOS to the Defence Ministry.

It was on Saturday at around 7 in the evening that 5 members of a family from Guwahati went missing after all of them fell into river Dikhow along with the vehicle they were travelling.

All the 5 people who are suspected to be dead have been identified as Haren Bora, his wife Phunu Bora, daughters Chimpi Bora, Munmi Bora and Haren Bora’s mother Panou Bora.

It has been doubted that the accident took place when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the embankment of river Dikhow after losing control and fell into the river.
