The Assam sprinter went first and gave India a good lead which the other three maintained till the end to clinch India’s 13th gold in the 2018 Asian Games.
The 4x400m team consisting of Hima Das, Poovamma Raju, Saritaben Gayakwad and Vismaya Velluva finished the race in 3 minutes 28.72 seconds.
Meanwhile, celebrations broke out at Hima Das’ hometown Dhing in Nagaon as people took to the streets celebrating her gold medal.
Earlier a tremendous performance by Jinson Johnson saw India clinch gold in the men’s 1500m event.
The women’s event saw Chitra Unnikrishnan winning bronze with a timing of 4 minutes 12.56 seconds.
In women’s discus throw, Seema Punia finishes third with her best throw of 62.26 m to bring home the bronze medal.
The men’s 4×400 relay team of Kunhu Muhammed, Muhammed Anas, Arokiarajiv and Dharun Ayyasamy bagged silver minutes after the women’s team claimed top spot.
It was however, heartbreak for the men’s hockey team who lost to Malaysia 6-7 in shootout. The men in blue will now fight it out for bronze on September 1.
