Traders operating in Sikkim’s Nathu La have threatened to suspend bilateral trade with China if the neighboring country does not allow more members to cross over to Chinese territory for trade and commerce.
Members of the traders association also called on the concerned District Collector in this regard on Monday and submitted a memorandum.
At present, only 40 traders and 60 vehicles are allowed to visit Chinese territory for trade.
The traders argue that the number of traders has risen manifold now rising to at least 500 and time was ripe to make changes in the norms.
Traders also argued that since limited vehicles are allowed cross the border people hurried to reach border in a bid to cross over early leading to frequent accidents.
