The opposition MNF and BJP in Mizoram have slammed the state government for not rising up to the occasion in tackling influx of illegal migrants into the state.
Talking to Northeast Live, MNF president Zoramthanga said the state needs to be on guard against influx post the publication of final draft NRC in Assam. He added that the incumbent government should take all possible steps to prevent the illegal migrants from sneaking into the state.
Stating that the current situation is very sensitive in nature, Zoramthanga said if the MNF comes to power later in the year it will step up the fight against influx.
Meanwhile, state BJP president JV Hluna said that at a time when governments in neighboring states like Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal and Nagaland are taking all possible steps to prevent influx, the Mizoram government has been caught napping. He appealed to the state government to take note of the current situation.
Reacting to the Congress government’s justification that the ILP checkpoints in Mizoram are sufficient to prevent illegal immigration into the state, the BJP president said that while under normal situation the Inner Line Permit checkposts may be enough, under crucial circumstances like the publication of the NRC in Assam, better precautions must be taken.
