The inhabitants of nine villages of the state in collaboration with the Mizoram Government Lumpsum Grant-in-Aid Higher Secondary School Association called for an indefinite shutdown of all government schools and offices today.
They also blocked roads of their respective areas, demanding the government to upgrade the status of their schools.
The protesters while speaking to Northeast Live stated that if the government does not meet their demands at the earliest, they will be compelled to block the roads connecting the Thingsulthlia village to the state’s Champhai district in order to pressurize the government in an effective manner.
The ongoing protest is slated to continue till the 3rd of August and is being supported by several NGOs and people of the neighboring villages. However, the protest has been peaceful so far and there have been no reports of any untoward incidents.
