The 48-hour general strike called by MUSU got widespread support from people in Manipur capital Imphal.

Life had come to a near standstill in Imphal where shops and markets remained shut. People were seen blocking roads by burning tyres and setting up barricades.

The Manipur University Students’ Union had called for a 48-hour strike across the state from Tuesday midnight, seeking the removal of the university vice-chancellor Adya Prasad Pandey.

MUSU President M Dayaman stated that students along with the teachers had been protesting for the ouster of the Vice Chancellor but the authorities concerned continued to remain mum and indifferent towards their movement and in order to intensify their agitation, the strike has been called.
