More than a dozen houses are at the center of a major border dispute between India and Myanmar in the Nagaland sector.
Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and seeked her immediate intervention to stop the facilities from facing possible demolition by Myanmar authorities.
Rio discussed the issue relating to the demolition of 19 houses falling between Border Pillar No. 145 and 146 along the border as reports of Myanmar authorities demolishing the houses gain ground.
The 11 Government Buildings and 8 Private Houses including a school are used by Nagas living on both sides of the Border. Rio suggested that the infrastructure could be effectively utilized by both countries to promote international border trade and facilitate people to people contact.
Sushma Swaraj assured the delegates that she would take up the matter with the Myanmarese authorities for a solution. Chief Minister Rio was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister, Y. Patton, Advisor Toshi Wungtung, and MP (Lok Sabha) Tokheho Yepthomi.
