The Arunachal Pradesh government which had recently scrapped 15 hydel power projects has indicated that it may soon cancel more projects on grounds of poor execution by the concerned companies.

Talking exclusively to Northeast Live on the sidelines of the NEC meet in Shillong, Chief minister Pema Khandu said that the state government is unhappy with the execution of several of the 130 projects for which MoUs have been signed.

He also stated that very little execution on the ground level was a wastage of the state’s resources. Among the cancelled projects include one at Kameng-1 which was supposed to be developed by NEEPCO.

Meanwhile, Khandu said his government would engage in widespread consultations with stakeholders whether or not to withdraw the Bill that has been in place for over the past four decades.

Earlier, CM Khandu drew flak from various groups as the announcement was seen as a danger to the state’s indigenous faith and culture.

The anti-conversion law or the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act was passed in 1978 primarily to counter alleged proselytisation by Christian missionaries. The BJP led government in the state is looking to repeal the law.
