Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Shillong for the 67th plenary meet of the North Eastern Council being held in the city. He was received by Meghalaya Home Minister James Sangma.
Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh also arrived along with Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Among others in attendance are the chief ministers of Northeastern states including Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio, Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb and governors of all Northeastern states.
A number of key developmental issues of the region would be taken up for discussion during the two-day meet to be chaired by the Union Home Minister. Discussions on the ongoing projects in the region, including infrastructure projects related to connectivity such as roads, bridges and airports are slated to be held during the meet.
The yet-to-be launched Ayushman Bharat or the universal health insurance scheme would also be taken up for discussion and officials from the Union Ministry of Health would give their presentation on this important scheme and the way forward.
Some of the other Central schemes that would be discussed are Poshan Abhiyan or the National Nutrition Mission and the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, an outreach programme to deliver Central welfare schemes to rural areas.
