The Union Home Ministry on Friday said that 46 fully equipped rescue teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been stationed in flood-prone areas of 14 states as proactive measures.
The NDRF teams, comprising of 1,384 personnel, have been deployed in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
As per sources, the teams will assist state administrations in rescue and relief work. A 24X7 NDRF control room has also been set up in New Delhi which is closely monitoring the situation and is in touch with other agencies for additional deployment.
Assam continues to find itself in the grip of heavy floods as several parts of the state remain affected. The Brahmaputra river was in spate on Friday at Neamatighat in Jorhat district and at Tezpur in Sonitpur district. Brahmaputra’s tributary Jiabharali was flowing above the danger mark at North Trunk road in Sonitpur district.
