As cattle smuggling to Bangladesh from Assam goes unabated through the porous international border in Karimganj, the police have stumbled upon leads that gold is being smuggled to India in exchange of cattles.

Intensifying its probe the police have arrested the kingpin identified as Jayanta Kumar Dey who is behind smuggling cattle in exchange of gold. The accused was operating the racket from a cloth store along the banks of the Kushiyara river.

The police have also arrested another cattle smuggler identified as Abdul Waheb who is also a close aid of the kingpin. Two SIM cards of Bangladesh service providers have also been seized from Jayanta Kumar Dey.
